Clean Fifteen

« Back to Glossary Index

The Clean Fifteen are the crops least sprayed with toxic pesticides and other agricultural chemicals in the country. If you can’t find an organic fruit or vegetable, you can safely pick it from this list.

Bear in mind that although the Clean Fifteen are either minimally sprayed or not at all with harmful chemicals, their nutritive profile might be inferior to organic produce due to differences in soil health in which they were grown.

Both the Clean Fifteen and Dirty Dozen produce lists are maintained by Environmental Working Group. EWG scrupulously tests samples of about fifty crops from all over the country and lists them in order from the most to the least contaminated. Carry the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen lists with you to grocery shopping. Download EWG’s apps for android and iphone devices.
